The EUHealthGov network is delighted to welcome Sebastiano Lustig on Thursday 13 March 2025 at 12 noon GMT/13h CET for a discussion on the role of the Health Emergency preparedness and Response Authority (HERA) in the EU Health Security Framework.
COVID-19 has given new impetus to the EU’s health security agenda. The most emblematic illustration of this was the establishment, in 2021, of a new health security institution, the EU’s Health Emergency preparedness and Response Authority (HERA). Its mission is to strengthen the EU’s capacity to respond to future pandemics of other health threats, mainly by ensuring the provision of critical medical countermeasures.
Sebastiano Lustig is the Policy Coordinator for prevention, preparedness and response planning for medical countermeasures at the European Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA). Previously, Sebastiano worked for DG SANTE, where his responsibilities included negotiating the European Health Union proposals on the serious cross-border threats to health regulation and the strengthened mandate of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. A social policy professional by background, Sebastiano has served as a consultant for several international and governmental organizations, including the OECD, NATO, and GIZ
EUHealthGov is a research network, funded by the University Association for Contemporary Studies (UACES) and the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, focused on the governance of health in the European Union. The event will last 60 minutes, including a Q&A session, and will be chaired by Dr Charlotte Godziewski (City St George’s, University of London). It will take place on Microsoft Teams, you can register via this link.
